Berita Otomotif - Zodiak - Zodiak Entertainment has increased its shareholding in Mumbai-based Sol Production, and now has a controlling stake in the indie.
Zodiak, part of the De Agostini Group, now own 51% of Sol, up 16% on its previous stake, which it acquired in 2008. However, day-to-day operations at the prodco will not be affected, with Sol retaining its independence and brand name. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Zodiak's production portfolio consists of more than 30 companies, including Mastiff in Scandinavia, Wallander producer Yellow Bird, Marathon, Jarowskij, Distillery and Miami-based RM 5to Elemento. Its MipTV slate includes Rai Uno gameshow format The Guillotine, That's My Kid and new 'flash mob' format One World.
Sol was set up in 2003 by Kamna Nirula Menezes and Fazila Allana, former executive producers for Indian broadcast group UTV, and is best known for its long-running Disney Channel India teen-drama Kya Mast Hai Life. Other shows include Star One talkshow Koffee with Karan, Colors TV's Dancing Queen and Dhoom Machaao Dhoom, which also ran on Disney Channel India.
In addition, Sol has appointed a new CEO in Keshav Kaul, who will lead its expansion into new territories, Zodiak said. He joins from Indian broadcaster Star TV, where he was associate VP of strategic planning.
Fazila Allana, MD of Sol, said: "We are very pleased that Zodiak Entertainment is further increasing its stake in Sol. We have received tremendous support from the group and benefited from the resources available to us, which have improved our knowledge of the international marketplace.
"With an even stronger team in place now that Keshav has joined, we are feeling very positive about Sol's future growth."
